  • Pride Month 2023

    Published 06/06/23
    What is pride month?

LGBTQ+ Pride Month is a month, typically June, dedicated to celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride. Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and has since spread outside the United States.

    What is the pride symbol?

The rainbow flag was created by the artist Gilbert Baker in 1978 and is used as a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride. Each colour on the flag has its own meaning. In the six colour flag the colours have the following meanings:

    • Red – symbolic of life
    • Orange – symbolic of healing
    • Yellow – sunshine
    • Green – Nature
    • Blue – Harmony
    • Purple – Spirit

There have been many variations of the rainbow flag. In 2021 the flag was altered to include black representing diversity, brown representing inclusivity and light blue and pink representing the colours of the trans flag.

Year 13 student at Woolwich Polytechnic Sixth Form published Author!

We are so proud to announce that Enoch in Year 13 has published a Fiction novella named ‘Devotion: The Tale of Seraun’. There are copies available in our School Library or you can order your own copy on Amazon here:

Devotion: The Tale of Seraun: Amazon.co.uk: Adeniji, Enoch: 9798373299794: Books

Devotion is a Coming-of-Age Fiction novella that entails protagonist Seraun’s quest to become a professional basketball player. However, with the death of his father, injuries and external doubters, these dreams appear to be a lot further away than expected. With the help of Dala’s advice, perhaps this pursuit becomes more attainable. Seraun undergoes numerous trials and tribulations in the hope of achieving what he believes he was born to do.

“Who wrote that they wanted to be a famous basketball player”- the teacher exclaimed in a slight chuckle. I raised my hand up boldly, hoping that I was going to receive some level of praise in front of the whole class, but I got the opposite.
"You need to aim for something within your reach” The whole room joined in an alliance of laughter towards the situation: I too joined in the laughter, but I did not understand the joke. - CHAPTER 2: ANEW
